Remarkable Documentary on the Journey of Organ Donation and Transplantation; “The Power of Two” Screening Held in Capital Region on November 13th.
Featuring an intimate portrait of sister-advocates through a double lung transplantation
On Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 6-8p.m. the Northeast Kidney Foundation, the Center for Donation & Transplant and the New York Alliance for Donation invites the public to a reception and film screening of the award winning and nationally acclaimed documentary “The Power of Two.”
This renown documentary has debuted at film festivals world-wide and also takes place on “Donor Sabbath” a nationally recognized program started by faith-based communities across the country to raise awareness for organ donation. The screening will be held at Proctor's GE Theater located at 432 State Street in Schenectady.
The documentary is inspired by the life stories of the Stenzel Twins (Ana and Isa) and their respective journeys through double lung transplantation, which have compelled them to move from patients to advocates for better access to health care, treatment and transplantation worldwide. As advocates, their efforts have been largely focused on the United States and Japan, their mother’s native country. Their post-transplant activities include running a half marathon, climbing a 10,000 foot mountain peak, swimming and running in the U.S. Transplant Games.
Attending the film will be Marc Smolowitz the film’s director & producer, Stenzel twin Isa Stenzel, advocates for organ donation and transplant game participants. Marc Smolowitz is an Academy Award-nominated film, television & new media producer (“The Weather Underground” 2003, “Trembling Before G-d” 2001), director and Executive Producer / Consultant to a diverse slate of San Francisco-based media and technology companies.
“Bringing a film of this stature to the Capital Region is a rare opportunity,” said Carol LaFleur, director of the Northeast Kidney Foundation. “This powerful event will help us spread the word so that together we can show our community the miracle of organ donation and transplantation!”
